Attendance and Punctuality

🌟 Why Attendance Matters

At Harpfield Primary Academy, we believe that every school day counts. Good attendance is essential for children to make the most of their education, build friendships and develop important life skills.

📚 Learning and Progress

  • Children who attend school regularly are more likely to keep up with their learning and achieve their full potential.

  • Missing even a few days can disrupt learning and make it harder to catch up.

🤝 Social Development

  • School is a key place for children to develop friendships and learn how to work and play with others.

  • Regular attendance helps children feel part of the school community and boosts their confidence.

🧠 Building Good Habits

  • Attending school every day helps children build routines and responsibility—skills that will benefit them throughout life.

  • It sets the foundation for good habits in secondary school and beyond.

📈 Impact on Achievement

  • Research shows that children with high attendance are more likely to succeed academically.

  • Poor attendance can lead to gaps in learning and lower achievement.

👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 Working Together

We understand that sometimes absences are unavoidable. If your child is unwell or there's a family emergency, please let us know as soon as possible. We’re here to support you in ensuring your child gets the best start in life.

Here are some additional tips for parents on how to promote good school attendance:

  • Set a good example by attending work or other important events regularly.
  • Make sure your child has a regular sleep schedule and eats a healthy breakfast.
  • Help your child to stay organised and prepared for school.
  • Talk to your child about their day and their schoolwork.
  • Be supportive and understanding if your child misses school for a legitimate reason.
  • Work with school if your child has a chronic illness or other challenges that make it difficult for them to attend school regularly.

Our attendance target for this year is 96%. We have weekly, half-termly and termly rewards for attendance.

No holidays will be authorised during term time.

The attendance officer is our home-school link worker, Mrs Lockett. Our safeguarding and attendance lead is Mrs Adlington.

Punctuality

At our school, we believe punctuality sets the tone for a successful day of learning. Arriving on time helps children settle into their routines, feel prepared and make the most of every opportunity. It also teaches valuable life skills like responsibility and respect for others. Let’s work together to ensure every child starts their day ready to thrive!

We open our doors at 8:30am and close them at 8:40am.

Please let us know if you require any support; we are here to help!
